CUPE PEI acknowledges with respect that our work and activism takes place on the unceded and ancestral territory of the Mi’kmaq People.
The CUPE PEI office is located on Epekwitk (PEI). We recognize all Indigenous peoples who were here before us, those who are with us now, and the seven generations to come. As Indigenous peoples have done since time immemorial, we strive to be responsible stewards of the land and to respect that cultures, ceremonies, and traditions of all who call it home. As we open our hearts and minds to the past, we commit ourselves to working in a spirit of truth and reconciliation to make a better future for all.
We honor the treaties of peace and friendship, which recognizes Mi’kmaq title and established an ongoing relationship between nations.
As CUPE members, we acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past, the legacy still with us today, and dedicate the work that we do to moving forward in partnership and solidarity with Indigenous communities in a spirt of truth, reconciliation, and meaningful collaboration.
We stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples who continue to assert their territorial sovereignty and commit to remembering that we are all treaty people.
